MY LIFE STORY

As I closed my eyes lying securely in my mother’s arms I began to reflect on my life.  Wow, what a great life I’ve had in these 19 years!

I was born on February 27, 1991 in Atlanta Georgia.  The first time I opened my eyes, I was looking at my beautiful mother, Emma Brandy Lucier and my handsome father, Leonardo Lucier.  My older brother and sister Dwayne and Brandi were there too.   When I was twelve, Beverly “Mommy Bev” Durden Lucier, joined my family.  I grew up in a happy family and I knew from the start that I was loved, blessed and special.

My grandparents Jehu and Rose Brandy (my mother’s parents) and my dad’s mother, Miriam Walker Lucier, his father Josiah Lucier (who preceded me in death) and other mother, Lourdes Lucier, have all been there to give me love, support and encouragement. Grandma Rose and Grandpa Jehu kept me as a toddler until I began school at Collier Heights Elementary, and then later on to Usher Middle School.  I entered high school at Frederick Douglass High School and later attended Benjamin E. Mays High School, where I received my diploma.

Growing up I loved playing with action figures, hot wheels and video games.  I could always play for hours by myself or with friends.  I loved watching scary movies with Brandi and Dwayne.

I learned early that the destiny of a man is his own soul, I grew up in the International Christian Fellowship Church (ICF), and at age sixteen I gave my life over to Christ by being baptized at Providence Missionary Baptist Church.  I was very active with The Youth Ministry and other organizations within ICF.  I facilitated other charitable causes in hopes of uplifting and touching the lives of others.  My life has been full of wonderful experiences.  Many people have touched my life, and I’ve always wanted to make a difference in other’s lives.  A major goal in my life was to help others, especially friends who were going through difficult times.   My friends trusted me, respected me and the advice I gave them.  While working with the YMCA and Future Leaders of America, I was able to impact many young men to take the right path in life.

I loved to look good and could dance anyone off the floor- these were my passion.  As a younger child my family reveled at my acrobatic moves, but I was also known to keep my family abreast of the latest and hottest technology.  Now let us not forget that I lived for music, and singing was another passion.

Two years ago I was diagnosed with a rare form of muscular cancer, Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma. I’ve battled the cancer, but I never let it change my view of life.  I know that God gives us trails to test our strength and faith.  He tells us he’ll never give us more than we can bear.

During my treatments at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, in the AFLAC Unit, the wonderful staff gave me comfort during my storm.  Additionally, the music of my favorite artist, Stevie Wonder, and constant prayers, made it easier to endure the treatments.  My friend Beth Collier, the music therapist at Children’s Healthcare, knew how much I loved Stevie, so she and Jaye Watson, with WXIA 11 Alive News made a dream come true by giving me the chance to actually meet Stevie Wonder, through Rock Against Cancer Foundation.  This was one of the most exciting things that ever happened to me next to being born.  I sat on stage with Stevie for the entire three hour concert. WOW!!  I’ll never forget it!

So many people have enriched my life.  I have all my aunts, uncles, cousins, church family and friends, who’ve loved and supported me throughout my life.  I pray that I’ve made a difference in someone’s life.  I’ve tried to be strong, encouraging and positive.  If I’ve touched just one person then I know I did not live my life in vein.

I hope you know a little more about me now.  I’m tired now, and It’s time to rest ……………………but I know that my loving mother Emma Lucier, loving father Leonardo Lucier I, caring stepmother Beverly “Mommy Bev”Lucier, Siblings: brother Dwayne Lucier (Kelly), sister Brandi Lucier, sister Alicia Arnold, Grandparents Jehu and Rose Brandy, Sr., Miriam Lucier and Lourdes Lucier: Great Aunts: Ethel Brumskine, Sara Starks,  and Phyllis Johnson (Kim) : Great Uncle: Dr. Charles Walker (Lois), William Lucier (Ethel): Aunts Elma Brandy, Zandra Lucier, Shirley Sims and Renee Lucier:  Uncles: Dr. Othello Brandy, Sr. (Lerine), Rev. Jehu Brandy, Jr. (Bridgette), Jared Brandy, Vincent Lucier, Scott Lucier (Dionne), a nephew who dearly loves me, Joseph Lucier and niece Kayla Lucier, a host of beloved cousins and extended family and friends will continue to live a life full of zest, love and compassion for others.
